Before we dive into this article, let me first give you a list of things you absolutely must do when you visit Cappadocia. These are the experiences you can’t miss. So buckle up, because this is going to be a trip you’ll never forget!
Must-Do's in Cappadocia: The Ultimate Bucket List
- Don’t leave without shopping in the streets of Göreme and Ürgüp.
- You can’t miss a hot air balloon ride and the breathtaking sunrise view.

The main cities in the region are Nevşehir, Kayseri, Aksaray, and Niğde, with Nevşehir city often being considered the heart of Cappadocia. It is easily accessible by air from major cities like Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir, and by road from several parts of Turkey.
How can you get to Cappadocia?
- The distance from Istanbul to Cappadocia is 757 km, which takes about 7 and a half hours
- From Ankara to Cappadocia, it’s 305 km, and the drive takes around 3 and a half hours.
By Air : Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir Quickest and most comfortable from Istanbul. If flying into Kayseri, take a bus or transfer to the region.
Since Cappadocia is a very popular tourist destination, it’s usually possible to find affordable tickets from cities like Istanbul and Ankara.
In Cappadocia, the attractions are spread out, so I highly recommend renting a car. If you don’t, you’ll probably waste a lot of time getting from place to place.
Since it’s a tourist destination, I recommend going with local car rental companies. Just make sure to haggle a bit and ensure you’re getting the right price

1) Hot Air Balloon
When I think of Cappadocia, hot air balloons are the first thing that comes to mind. The sight of them is a true visual spectacle. Although I didn’t ride a balloon, I researched prices and tips for those who want to.
Important tip: Watching the balloons at sunrise is, in my opinion, even more beautiful than taking a ride yourself.
You’ll need to be at the location by 6:30 AM to catch the hot air balloons.

Uçhisar is one of the locations in Cappadocia known for its luxury and expensive hotels. Here, you can visit Pigeon Valley and Uçhisar Castle. Additionally, Kocabag Winery is one of the key spots in this area.
Important tip: When you visit Uçhisar, be sure to stop by Çiko’s Place and enjoy a cup of Turkish tea. With a view of Uçhisar Castle, this experience will refresh you and take away any fatigue
Göreme and Ürgüp are two of the most iconic destinations in Cappadocia. The Göreme Open-Air Museum is a perfect spot to explore the area’s rich historical and cultural heritage. Güvercinlik Vadisi ( Piegon Valley) is a popular spot for activities like trekking, biking, running, and yoga. Safari tours through the valley allow visitors to explore nearby valleys and cappadocia caves, though it’s not possible to enter this specific valley itself.
