Bursa city is an excellent choice. Bursa is the first capital of the Ottoman Empire and a city full of history.
Just a short 1 hour and 40 Just 1 hour and 40 minutes from Istanbul, this city offers a wealth of experiences to enrich your trip.

First, let’s explore the fastest and most affordable way to get to Bursa.

The Fastest Way to Get from Istanbul to Bursa
- Take the ferry (this is my top recommendation)
- Take the bus
- Drive by car (Rent a car)

There are no trains between Istanbul and Bursa.
Option 1 (I recommend this option)
The fastest, cheapest and smartest way to travel from Istanbul to Bursa is by ferry. Ferries operate from both Eminönü Pier BUDO Ferry from Istanbul to Bursa and Yenikapı Pier (IDO). These are two separate companies with BUDO offering more budget friendly options.
Option 2
The second option is Istanbul from Bursa Bus If you choose this option, keep in mind that you’ll likely arrive later as Istanbul is a busy city with heavy traffic and buses make many stops to pick up passengers. Be sure to choose reliable bus companies for a smoother experience.
If you arrive in Bursa by bus, you’ll disembark at the Bursa intercity bus terminal.
Option 3
The third option is to rent a car and drive to Bursa. While this is a more expensive option, it’s the fastest way to get to Bursa. If you’re driving to Bursa, you’ll need to either take the Osmangazi Bridge, which connects Istanbul and Bursa, or take the car ferry (IDO) to get to Bursa.
Since we’re doing a day trip to Bursa, time is limited, so it’s important to choose the earliest morning departures.
Take the cable car to Uludag Mountain!

If you arrive in Bursa early in the morning, your first order of business should be to take the cable car up to UludaÄŸ. The breathtaking views you’ll see will give you a boost of energy.Â
Visit Grand Mosque in Bursa (Ulu Camii)

Bursa’s Grand Mosque located in the first capital of the Ottoman Empire, is one of the most significant examples of Ottoman architecture. Built in 1399, the mosque reflects the art and culture of its time, holding great religious and historical importance. Its calligraphy, impressive domes, and intricate tile decorations showcase the elegance of Ottoman aesthetics.
The Bursa Grand Mosque is free to enter.
See Bursa Tophane Clock Tower !

Just a 10-minute walk from the Grand Mosque, you’ll reach the Tophane Clock Tower, offering a stunning view of the city. Additionally, the tombs of Osman Gazi, Orhan Gazi, and many other Ottoman sultans are located here, making it a site rich in history and significance.
Explore the Long Shopping Street!

Bursa’s Long Shopping Bazaar, with its 600-year history, reflects the atmosphere of the Ottoman era. It offers unique souvenirs such as silk products, handicrafts, and silver jewelry.
